Emily was a recipient of the Art Writing Workshop award from the Arts Writer Grant Program (The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Creative Capital), selected as one of 10 out of 250 applicants, and mentored by New York Times critic and Pulitzer-Prize winner Holland Cotter. Her academic scholarship was featured in San Francisco's Queer Cultural Center's Emerging Scholars Program through a QCCA (Queer Conversations on Culture and the Arts) panel, "Queer Technologies." In 2016, she was a guest curator for The News at SOMArts in San Francisco, a performance arts showcase featuring new and experimental works-in-progress by queer and trans artists.
